16th April (27th Nissan) Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah)
At 10.00 am the sirens will sound, and a minutes silence is held as we remember the 6 million Jews who perished. This is a very moving experience, to see cars, buses, and traffic stop and people get out of their vehicles to stand in silence, as a Nation, and remember. Please pray particularly against the shocking and scary rise in anti-Semitic acts world-wide.
Here's a video showing what it's like on the highways during the siren.
21st April (3rd Iyar) IDF Remembrance Day (Yom HaZikaron)
This again, is a very solemn day, with a siren calling for a minutes silence at 8.00 pm the evening before, and a two minute silence at 11.00 am on Wednesday. We stand and remember that nearly 24,000 brave soldiers have given their lives since 1860, to protect and ensure the continued existence and presence of the Jewish People in their G-d given Homeland. Please continue to pray the Lord will comfort those who mourn.
Next Thursday -
22nd April (4th Iyar) Israel Independence Day (Yom Ha'atzmaut)
This is an amazing joyful day in the Land of Israel as we commemorate the Declaration of the State of Israel by David Ben Gurion on 5th Iyar 5708 (14th May 1948) The day can be moved forward or back when it clashes with a Shabbat (this is why it's not on Friday...). It is indeed a day of rejoicing, and a day of Bar-B-Qs!
This year we will participating in a "Day to Praise" with the Jewish community. Jew and Christians coming together to worship in Psalms, prayers and praise to the One true God - the God of Israel!
LET US NEVER FORGET.....
Thanks to our good friend Fran for much of the information above from her prayer letter.
